How did we rank the players?
Using the ESPN Forecast model, our engine for creating more accurate sports predictions and opinions, we asked a panel of 35 ESPN experts from across our various platforms to come up with a list of the top 100 players in college hoops.
Here is what they found.
No. 19: Brandon Ashley, Junior, Forward, Arizona | Score: 7.52
Ashley was just starting to hit his stride when a foot injury ended his season in February. Now the question is, can he return to that form after the lengthy rehab?
No. 18: Andrew Harrison, Sophomore, Guard, Kentucky | Score: 7.56
His coach's mysterious tweak worked wonders on the point guard, who by season's end finally played with confidence and poise. Maintaining that will be key for the Cats this year.
No. 17: Yogi Ferrell, Junior, Guard, Indiana | Score: 7.65
Ferrell scored and shot a lot last year (an Indiana single-season record 220 3-pointers to be exact) because he had to. If things go well this year for the Hoosiers, Ferrell, a scoring point guard, will be able to be a little more selective.
No. 16: Terran Petteway, Junior, Forward, Nebraska | Score: 7.71
The headbanded wonder boy's breakout season turned the Cornhuskers into an NCAA Tournament team. If Petteway, who added muscle in the offseason, takes the next step, he could turn Nebraska into a Big Ten contender.
No. 15: Branden Dawson, Senior, Forward, Michigan State | Score: 7.82
Dawson got better and better as the season went on, and Tom Izzo expects even bigger things this year. He needs them from the senior as the Spartans try to move forward without Gary Harris, Keith Appling and Adreian Payne.
No. 14: Kevin Pangos, Senior, Guard, Gonzaga | Score: 7.82
It just seems like Pangos has been in school forever because he's played such a significant role for Mark Few for so long. But this year, he has the best cast around him, which should make one of the best playmakers in the game even better.
No. 13: Caris LeVert, Junior, Guard, Michigan | Score: 7.88
LeVert's unexpected contributions last year (12.9 points, 4.3 rebounds) were a big part of the Wolverines' success. But the junior isn't going to surprise anyone this year and will have to go from role player to key player, as Michigan reloads without Glenn Robinson III, Mitch McGary and Nik Stauskas.
No. 12: Aaron Harrison, Sophomore, Guard, Kentucky | Score: 7.88
The shooting guard found his groove in March and, not surprisingly, so did the Wildcats. With so many big men on the roster, Harrison's outside touch will be key to UK's success.
No. 11: Tyler Haws, Senior, Guard, BYU | Score: 7.94
From Jimmer Mania to Haws Hysteria? Yeah, it could happen, as Haws with his 1,944 points inches ever closer to Fredette's 2,599. Unlike his predecessor, Haws relies on more of a midrange game, but like Fredette, he keeps things entertaining with high-degree-of-difficulty bonus shots.
